I think you are right about needing to stay strong and focused. It’s about reminding ourselves that while the short term day-to-day might not be perfect, if it’s getting us to where we want to be in the long term, than we are doing the right thing. We just need to stay the course. Thanks for reading.

I love your positive look on the future despite the major setbacks you have experienced. You sound like a very strong willed, intelligent woman! Keep those goals in sight.
I relate to struggling to barely pay bills, and I also know that if it were not for several family members making some small contributions to my bills, I don’t honestly know how I would’ve survived college and the years post-grad. I went to BU and being surrounded by students driving expensive cars and toting designer handbags, it was hard not to feel like I was swimming against an impossible current. I also used up my entire life savings (which I started when I was 10 years old) to pay bills in the years after graduating. And I was not an irresponsible spender, but the 3 jobs I had waitressing and as a children’s counselor barely paid my monthly rent. And let’s not even talk about school loans.
But, staying strong and focused has slowly begun to pay off, and I am confident that someone as dedicated as you will find the light outside the tunnel (not just see the light at the end of the tunnel, but get out to it!). I look forward to hearing more of your story!

Grace

I truly believe that out of hardship comes something worth waiting for and taking a step back from my career has opened me up to a whole new world of possibilities. Although it’s scary and I have self-doubt daily, I know positive things are headed my way. Thanks for reading and for your kind words.

It is both inspiring, and disheartening at the same time, to hear of your potential rise seven years ago.

Life indeed can flip at the blink of an eye. We’re all mortals, after all, but this invincibility is seldom at the forefront of many twenty-somethings.

You speak of your social network marrying off or buying homes. Yes, many are doing that in that age range but also keep in mind, that lifestyle of kids, marriage, and home ownership also bring with it problems of its own. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Despite your earlier medical misfortunes, it sounds like you have both feet firmly planted on the ground. You do not sound bitter but continue to strive for career and life goals, such as enrolling in nutrition school. Your story is inspirational and one for all ages. I tip my fedora to you and your dreams. Stay strong.

I don’t think young adults realize how quickly life can change. We think we’re invincible! We have both been forced to deal with health issues at a very young age. I’m so happy that you put yourself and your health first! We are here for a very short amount of time and staying in a job that is deteriorating to your health and well being is no way to live. Concentrate on focusing on you and getting well again. The rest will follow!
