The college kids are gone, the humidity is oppressive, and the parking is plentiful. That means the ever-predictable summer news cycle is in full swing.
You know it’s summer in Boston when…
- Someone spots a Great White on the Cape. Sighting off Scituate over the weekend, forward-looking expert story Tuesday, Coast Guard warns people not to play with seals Friday.
- The Globe does a random poll. In the political doldrums of summer, nothing generates news faster than a poll. On Monday, a Boston Globe poll revealed Sen. Scott Brown is wicked popular — more popular than even the president. It generated a full week of news stories and analysis, including right here on Hubbub. (Exhibits A, B, C.)
- A summer jobs program gets last-minute funding. Foundations and nonprofits scraped together enough money to create 400 jobs for young people this summer.
- Some town loses its fireworks, then reinstates them. This year it was Bridgewater.
- WBUR talks about summer reading for kids. All Things Considered and On Point on the same day.
- Phelps does round-up posts. Because he’s running out of stuff to write about.
