Good morning! After a brief preview, Fake Spring returns tomorrow and should last till the weekend. Today, however, is cold.
Lots of news today, so I’m going to use bullets:
- It’s Election Day in Boston: District 7 votes on Chuck Turner’s replacement.
- The U.S. Justice Department will investigate the death of DJ Henry, the Easton native and Pace University student gunned down by police in New York state last year. Yesterday, a grand jury failed to indict any of the officers involved.
- Former Gov. Mitt Romney topped President Obama in a theoretical WMUR Granite State poll. Support among N.H. voters for former Gov. Sarah Palin voters was small.
- A gruesome discovery in Brockton: Police found the bodies of an Ecuadoran woman and her two-year-old son stuffed in a trash bin.
- Sen. John Kerry is in Pakistan, trying to smooth over U.S. talks.
- Speaker Robert DeLeo is back at the State House after slipping on ice and breaking his ankle.
- WBUR’s Bianca Vazquez Toness deep-profiles Ayanna Pressley, a compelling but vulnerable Boston city councilor.
- As Celtics legend Bill Russell receives a Presidential Medal of Freedom, WBUR talks with Russell’s biographer about achievements on and off the court.
- Whole Foods is reaching out to Jamaica Plain after displacing Hi-Lo Foods, a local favorite, by offering to hire laid off workers and stocking affordable goods. WBUR covered the mixed reactions last month.
- The T is considering boosting fines for fare evaders. Skip out on the $2 and you could be liable for $150.
- A Mattapan man was shot in the back yesterday while taking out the trash. He survived.
