The Medical Foundation

Torture has been described as an attempt to kill a person without their dying. The consequences of torture on those who endure it are devastating. Treating the physical aftermath of torture is one thing. It's quite another to deal with the psychological effects. In London, there's a place that takes on this more difficult task, the Medical Foundation for the Care of the Victims of Torture, and every year thousands of people from countries all over the world walk through its doors.

This is the story of what torture can do to people's spirits and how some can be helped to recover.
