Kevin Peters, graduate research assistant, shows us what it takes to keep
warm and safe while scuba diving in the waters of Antarctica.
Peters is part of a three-person team that dives as deep as 130 feet below the
surface to sample sea sponges, corals and tunicates, a family that includes the
sea squirt. Even completely suited up, at this depth with temperatures as low
as 28 degrees, the team can remain in the water for only an hour.
