Global Warming - Science for grades 3-5

The purpose of this activity is for students to learn about the effects of global warming in Antarctica.

1. Share Dan Grossman's journals that discuss the impact of global warming on Antarctica and its inhabitants. As you read the journal entries with the students, record interesting facts and information from the entries on a large piece of chart paper.

2. Visit these sites to learn more about global warming, and continue to add facts and information to the chart paper.

3. Divide the class into small groups and ask each group to create a quiz on global warming and its effects on Antarctica and its inhabitants.

4. Ask each student to give the quiz their group created to at least five people who aren't from their class. Ask each group to answer the following questions after they have completed giving the quiz. Provide time for students to share their results with the entire class
  •  What question did most people answer correctly?
  •  What question did most people answer incorrectly?
  •  What answer seemed to surprise people the most?
  •  What was the most surprising thing you learned when you gave the quiz?
