A Taste of Local Cheese

New England is home to some of the country’s finest artisanal cheeses. This Saturday, June 12, you can sample a wide variety of these, when six regional cheesemakers gather at Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge for their Spring Cheesemakers Fest. At this daylong (free!) tasting, you can try everything from delicate goat’s milk cheeses to rich, ripe cow’s milk cheeses from the following farms: Carlisle Farmstead Cheese, Cato Corner Farm, Cobb Hill Farm, Jasper Hill Farm, Ploughgate Creamery and Spring Brook Farm. For more information, visit the Formaggio website.

This past week Radio Boston reporter and regular PRK contributor, Jessica Alpert, my fellow PRK intern, Alexandra Dimodica, and I took a trip to Carlisle Farmstead Cheese. There we talked with prizewinning cheesemaker, Tricia Smith, and got to hang out with her gorgeous, gregarious goats.

Listen for Jessica’s piece on Radio Boston, which is coming soon to a radio near you! In the meantime, here are a few photos from our visit, with more to come.

I’ve had the “Ada’s Honor” by Carlisle Farmstead, which has a very nice honey finish.
