NATIONAL TREATS
(AP) Food Styling
Sleep well tonight, the debate is finally over. It is spelled “barbecue,” not barbeque, not BBQ. BARBECUE. The 2011 version of the AP Stylebook has finally put our food-writer woes to rest. No, this isn’t baloney (it’s bologna). By adding a section to the new version on proper food writing style, food terms we once botched now have definitive spellings across the journalistic board. NPR News’ Michel Martin spoke with AP food editor J.M. Hirsch regarding the changes.
Wine Behaviors
The overall amount diners are spending on wine has gone down, but many are willing to pay more for a great by-the-glass pour, reported Dave McIntyre of the Washington Post.
Concern on Cilantro
Remember that NY Times story in April that noted some people’s revulsion to cilantro? The Chicago Tribune wrote another reason why cilantro might leave a bad taste in your mouth. In U.S.D.A testing, “at least 34 unapproved pesticides showed up on cilantro samples,” said reporter Monica Eng. Read more about the findings here.
