LOCAL BITES

Boston Baker
Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery + Cafe and Myers + Chang is everywhere this winter after the release of her first cookbook: “Flour.” On Friday, she cooked with Martha on The Martha Stewart Show, making vanilla crème-filled doughnuts. Chang said she sells them at her bakeries only on Sundays.

Cook Less
It’s cold enough outside. No need to add to the misery with another frozen dinner. Personal chef JJ Gonson from Cuisine en Locale is offering weekly, prepared meals as part of her Shared Food Program. For $100 a week, Gonson will prepare a set of heatable meals, delivered to Season to Taste in North Cambridge. Email her at jj@enlocale.com for more information.

Grilled Cheese on Wheels
There’s  a new grilled cheese food truck in town–at Cleveland Circle, to be exact–and it’s called Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese. Their stealth ingredient may surprise you. Roxy’s also serves fried pickles! Try one and your life will change forever.

Farmer’s Market
The North Attleboro Farmer’s Market is celebrating its one year anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 6th, from 12 – 4 p.m. Local growers and producers will sell their wares, along with raffle tickets to support Lenore’s Pantry, a food pantry for North Attleboro residents.

Ice, Ice (cream), Baby.
If yesterday’s snow wasn’t enough for you, sample some chili-themed ice cream at Harvard Square on Saturday for the “Some Like it Hot Chili Cook-off.” Warm up afterwards as ten restaurants plan to participate in the chili portion of the contest. From 1 – 3 p.m., taste and vote for free.

Super Bowl, Plate or Cup
I don’t know if you heard (now that the Pats are benched for the season) but the Super Bowl is Sunday! Edible Boston and The Urban Grape in Chestnut Hill are teaming up Saturday for a tasting of local dips, beer, nuts and more. The event is free.

Attention Cheese Heads
And did you know this? THE PACKERS are in the Super Bowl!! (Ok, I admit it: I’m from Wisconsin). Formaggio Kitchen, home of all things cheese, will be holding an outdoor sidewalk barbecue for your super bowl meats and sides on Saturday, 11 – 2 p.m. Today, however, it begins: they’re already prepping and smoking the meat. Since Formaggio was voted one of the top ten best new barbecue spots in 2009 by Bon Appétit, you might want to pre-order.

NATIONAL TREATS

Year of the Rabbit
Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! Today marks the beginning of the year of the Rabbit. Take your celebration literally, with this earlier post from PRK, or throw your own Chinese New Year party. Don’t worry, you can also order take-out.

Cubes Be Gone
Katherine Deumling of Culinate writes about making homemade veggie bouillon as a freezer staple. Who wouldn’t want a jar of this hanging around to make a quick soup?

One Stop
Take an aspirin and call me in the morning? Now you can get your choice of pain reliever and the beer that makes you need it at Walgreens. The pharmacy is now selling a house brand beer called “Big Flats 1901” at over half of their U.S. locations, according to The Chicago Tribune. At fifty cents a can, I’m not sure if the aspirin or the beer will taste better. Feeling cheated, wine drinkers? A new red is in the works for March.

Organic Milk
The debate on whether or not to go organic continues: you decide, as The Atlantic reports that organic milk might be healthier.
