‘Tis the Season
Somerville is gearing up for its second year of the Somerville Winter Farmers Market, Saturdays from 9:30-2:30 at the Center for Arts at the Armory. Keep an eye out for all your favorite vendors from last year, as well as many new ones. If Somerville is too far afield for you, there’s a full list of state-wide markets at DAR’s Massgrown and Fresher site.

Savory Phrases
Join Mayor Menino as he hosts the 3rd annual “Hometown Authors Reception” to benefit ReadBoston on Monday, Dec. 5. The evening will highlight book signings and comments from local authors — cookbook authors and food writers, included — as well as light appetizers and drinks from Island Creek Oyster Bar. Tickets can be ordered here.

Repeal Day
Celebrate the elimination of the 21st Amendment in style as Fenway’s Church restaurant hosts a “Repeal Day Dinner,” Monday, Dec. 5. An Official Interview About The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook

AMC’s Emmy-award winning drama, Mad Men, is consistently regarded as one of the most detail-oriented programs on television. From the decor of the homes and offices to the fashion trends, not to mention the actual historical events that occurred in America throughout the ’50s and ’60s, Mad Men never skimps on any facet of historical detail.

Applying such fidelity to an era to the art of cooking and entertaining (think: the perfect roasts Betty Draper serves up, and all those martinis!), cookbook writer Judy Gelman and nonfiction author Peter Zheutlin combined their skills to craft The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook, on shelves now.
